About Carlos Caggiani Carlos Caggiani ART … SCULPTURE, PAINTING and LIGHT Having been raised in Montevideo, the small capital of Uruguay, and with Italian roots, I was always passionate about the arts. In 1956, at the age of 16, I met Don Vero Fabri, an Italian sculptor who made a living as an art teacher. In his workshop, he would carve Victorian armchairs with impressive lion heads and claws. Noticing my curiosity about his work, he proposed to teach me and I began to learn what has now become my passion. In 1960, my artwork “Torso” was accepted in the National Hall of Fine Arts in Montevideo. This was one of the first iron sculptures made in the country and was therefore despised by critics who said it was not a proper sculpture medium. My studies led me to pursue mechanical engineering and although it was my career in the United States, achieving several invention patents, I never put aside my love of sculpture and painting. Retired in 2002 as Vice President of a large multinational company, I have now dedicated my creativity to my real passion which has always been part of my life’s adventure. Carlos Caggiani
