Tattered Sails Sculpture

Wood has been attracting me for a long time. Even in childhood I like many others cut down wooden branches with a pocket knife. I remember that at school I dreamed to have special chisels for wood carving. But at the time my dreams did not come true, and I forgot about them for many years. It turned out that all these years I was on a way to become a wood carver. Once I tried to carve something, as an adult and I managed to create a fine looking thing. As I did a good job I decided to create another nice piece. So bit by bit I tried different types of wood and looked for new methods of its treatment. For some time I was working with miniature — small items made of rare species of wood and bone. I happened to take part in an amazing adventure — I spent a year in Antarctica as a member of the Antarctic expedition. That year of isolation from society in the beautiful wilderness of our planet influenced my creativity and upon my return I switched to big sculptures. What I dreamed about during the entire year of the expedition has now become available — a lot of different tools and materials. It allowed me to develop myself in a new dimension of large-scale objects. For the last few years my works include sculptures from 2 to 5 meters high, as well as other volumetric interior objects made of solid wood of oak or larch. In my work, I use the metal, stone and other materials, but wood is my all-time favorite.
