This is the first of this sort of design I've attempted. Made from cypress with a black walnut frame, this piece was heavily inspired by the works of MC Escher. I decided to recreate the simple design that's been interpreted over and over again by many others I am certain.

When first starting this piece I had no real plan on what I was going to make. It started because I have a massive amount of wood in my shed that I just need to use, and as is the case with most of my wall hangings I began by cutting the boards into quarter inch strips. The trapezoid shapes used to make the entire piece just kinda happened naturally and I just repeated the cuts until I had enough to fill the size it became. After I had the general idea of what I was making I took a basic color palette from Escher's works and it was done.

I genuinely had a lot of fun making this one. I hope that you enjoy it as well. Thank you for taking a look at my work.

Hello, my name is David Warren. I'm an artist who finds enjoyment from nearly every form of creativity there is. From making music, to painting and drawing, film, and even woodworking. I began woodworking about a year ago when I moved from North Carolina to California. Only now in my 39th year of life do I feel I have found my medium of choice. After this realization I began Icozahedron Studio at the end of this past year where our main goal is to create unique and original works of art while being as sustainable as possible. Most of my wood pieces are made from reclaimed lumber and found objects. Thank you so much for taking a look at my works here on Saatchi Art. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about my work or wish for me to make you a custom piece.
