About The Artwork
Repeated oil spills and other forms of contamination are continually assaulting our planet's water. This piece references the legend of the birth of Venus, goddess of love and beauty as she emerges from the sea a "fully formed" woman stepping onto a dying beach. Sort of a mash-up of Botticelis "Birth of Venus" and the also iconic "Venus De Milo", her exposure to toxic contamination resulting in her missing and deformed limbs.
