About The Artwork
This is an homage to Nefertiti who was 'stricken' from formal Egyptian historical records. I reference the famous surviving bust of her as a way to comment on our recent presidential election. Nefertiti was a Queen who assumed power after her husband's death and wore the ceremonial beard worn by the Pharaohs. A woman in power having to wear a 'strap on' beard reminded me of all the other women in my life having to assume male mannerisms in order to lead. The butterflies reference all the children including my own that will rise up to make the world a better place for all.
