About The Artwork

The sculpture-installation concerns with the language of constructive, quasi architectural forms and industrial-domestic materials. It utilizes the so-called material edge dislocation as its building principle. Metaphorically speaking, it expresses the strive to progress and represents a meta-event which brings to light the experience of absurdity and confusion.

Eleonora Bourmistrov’s work takes on a multi-disciplinary approach from painting, sculpture and installation to photography, film-making and performance. Through construction of large immersive site-specific installations, her work aims to document the original stage, as well as the intermediate state of a dislocation process and the end result where the subject simultaneously contains elements of its previous and subsequent post-production forms and the making process. She further explores this notion by using materials that are partly natural, found or collected, partly man-made and industrial. She then deconstructs them from their original meaning to reconstruct them into something different but familiar thus creating an illusory perception of materiality and physical body. By combining genuine and non-genuine (but made to look real) materials and processes she is able to create a deception /an illusion of reality which convinces, bluffs and overwhelms the visitor /participator, at the same time.
