About The Artwork

Original, One of a Kind Stone Sculpture, Direct from the Artist. Snow Leapard Mother keeping it's young one close and safe. Sculpted from one piece of white and black Alabaster on a gray granite base. Weight is 90 lbs. They are an endangered species due to the high demand for their coats, snow leopards are illegally hunted for the fur trade. The pelts are a sought-after commodity in places like Central Asia, Eastern Europe and Russia where they are turned into coats and other garments. Snow leopard bones and body parts are also used for traditional Asian medicine. As humans expand their farm and grazing areas for livestock herds they are encroaching more into the snow leopards territories resulting in increased conflict with humans when snow leopards attack livestock during times when their natural prey is scarce. "Meet the Sculptor in this TV interview" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcQhOUywlg8&t=75s Self taught, Gerald has emerged with a natural talent to create original, one of a kind, sculptures of the unique and wondrous creatures that the Creator blessed us with. A lifetime of working with animals and nature, while farming and ranching, has endeared him to the beauty of wildlife in its natural habitat when uninterrupted by human intervention.Their grace and grandeur, their perks and quirks, often humorous, sometimes fearsome, always alert, moves him to capture one frame in their movement. He creates, from nature's stone, finely detailed, three dimensional wildlife sculptures. Works in jade, chlorite, soapstone, alabaster and perypholite. He also feels a bond with the First Nations Forefathers of our great nations in their reverence with Nature, and enjoys creating effigies of the proud historical Native figures. Our Creator bestowed upon every one of us the custodianship of this wondrous Planet and all its creatures. Meet the Artist:https://youtu.be/pSipFRD3pf8
