About The Artwork

∆ Tick tock... tick tock, will The Muffin Man find his way out of this one? An escape hatch is here somewhere, but does TMM really want to get away? The forest is such a tranquil place, maybe he’ll just... stay... forever. Contrasting the solid inertia of stone with hidden potential energy of a spring pendulum, Tannenbaum manages to evoke a set of partially paradoxical elements in this small diorama-like-on-a-flat plane sculpture - conflict and peace, movement and calm, something hidden yet also right out in the open. _________ Part of 'The Muffin Man' series Using a single strand of found carpet fuzz as a starting point for this series, a narrative is built around The Muffin Man, a beloved childhood character. Found objects, with their history and stories wove deep within themselves, reverberate off of each other to create a small contained world, resounding with its own energy. ∆

ART, LIKE LIFE, HAPPENS BY ACCIDENT. A whiff of control; some semblance of steering. And belief of a firm grip. But we're grasping at the air beneath our feet. The truth is: we don't hold anything. It comes in bits and bobs, dashes and jots - brief glimpses, spaces, sliding out of sight. For truth, is to feel it slip away. And then to try to create it. - - - Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, & often both, my art reflects the intersection between logic and intuition, real and abstract, time and the timeless. - - - - - - - - - Steven Tannenbaum grew up in New Jersey, where he learned how to garden and defend himself. He now lives in Portland, Oregon, and his art is in public & private collections across the US, Israel, and England. You can find more of his work at: www.whatifind.com
