The Poet Sculpture

This sculpture depicts a wandering poet as a combination of wine-press, court jester, and digestive tract. It represents the moment when the itinerant poet has found and claimed a mound of inspiration, represented by the purple wax dome. Wax spheres emerging from the digestive tract will fall into the bowl. Here it will be pressed underneath the rotating stone to produce poetry, to flow like wine from the spouts. Designed to resemble a playful utilitarian object, the sculpture draws on modernist (Brancusi's "Endless Column") folk art, and pop art influences. It was constructed from carved and painted cherry and obeche wood with stone, brass, and petroleum wax components
