The Tinmans Tin Print

The Tinman’s Tin Tavira, a small town on the East Algarve boasted a resident who had spent his working life making tin objects. His buckets, pots and pans were highly crafted and much sought after. When he retired he rented a small wine cellar near the towns ‘roman bridge’ and set up shop making tin objects for tourists, his tin lobsters, weather vanes, windmills and chimes were brightly coloured and appealing. One day in 2012 I visited his shop to look for a gift only to find his workshop closed. Several days later a friend told me he had died. I was saddened to think I would see him no more or talk with him about the things he made. Although we talked often I had nothing of his making, no memento only memories. A week later I passed his old workshop and peeped through a crack in the door to discover the space had been cleared, In a bin at the end of the road I found to my surprise much of the workshop rubbish including his old paint pot and brushes - I collected various objects that I recognised were from his studio this exhibit is the Tinman’s Tin.
