About The Artwork

An stereoscopic sawyer with two different images that contradicts its natural function (create 3-D imagens). As we look at the display, our brain immediately tries to unite the two images producing an instant homogeneous overlap. However as the two images are very distinct from each other, the eye does not get "settle down" as would happen in stereograms and spent the interim the predominance between the two pictures during the vision of overlap (at a time the face is most prominent in another the stain is more visible) and sometimes even a picture disappears completely while the other shines lonely. The work "The Spot" is a visual metaphor of the clash between two different versions of Mother Teresa: on the one hand, there is a research of the University of Montreal published in 2013 that affirm that the figure of Teresa would be one of Christianity's marketing creation that took her fragile and gentle missionary image to raise funds for the Vatican and not to the "poorest of the poor" (those that she should take care of and) on the other hand, is the really benevolent missionary who cared directly for the poorest and sickest in India. In The Spot, the two visions live together, light and darkness in a continuous battle that can last forever, the same way the decision about the the truth between the two stories about Teresa fight each other in the mind of many of us.
