The countless shapes and forms of the marble I come aross in the quarry sometimes already suggest a future sculpture. In this case the raw block transformed into a throne, unconventional in shape and design and extremely comfortable to sit in. The armrests pick up a subject dear to me, which is, always with a bit of irony, the incredible variability of the human head and face. The throne is a very attractive, free-standing sculpture suitable for all gardens and comes complete with a marble platform. It is intended to be used as a seat and robust enough to withstand all everyday "wear and tear". Occasionally the marble surface will require careful cleaning and a thin coat of a high quality marble care product. Due to its weight the throne will be required to be placed on a heavy-duty, level foundation. The overall weight of 2500 kilograms is an approximation at the moment, based on an average of 2800 kilograms per cubic metre for this type of marble (Untersberg). A precise measurement will be taken using a crane scale as soon as an intention of purchase is placed. If any questions arise, please feel free to contact me any time.

Born in Salzburg/Austria in 1939 into a famliy of artists I trained as a sculptor and worked as a restorer for several years before starting to experiment and create my own sculptures using wood, stone and bronze. Very early in my career I fell in love with the human form while also increasingly using my art to voice my concern about the immense human impact on our planet. My favourite materials are the famous marbles found around Salzburg (Adnet and Untersberg marbles). Decades ago I discovered local quarries as spectacular backdrops to my outdoor workshops. As a principle, when working with stone, I never use the aid of power tools. All my sculptures, including monumental ones, are exclusively carved by hand, using hammer and chisels only. In preparation for my sculptures I do intensive research, creating series of drawings and model sculptures using both clay and artist quality plasticine.
