About The Artwork
Rough and sensuous female torso, part of the "Fragile" Installation, along with the other three pieces which show the human form, in movement, dynamic poses overlapping - charcoal drawing on layers of thin almost translucent and irregular paper, aiming to recreate the fragile feel of the human image and identity that is barely preservable in the face of time, change and outside intervention. This clay torso stems from a desire to squeeze and push the human form with one's own hands, while keeping it figurative and realistic. The human flesh is able to convey that type of tension that is not quite deformation, yet suggests the impact of gravity, of movement and of the contraction of muscles within the body itself. More than other types of 3 dimensional representation clay modeling feels like it can provide the same level of hands on, almost physical involvement with the artwork. The natural provenance of the two materials (clay and charcoal) also recommends them for capturing that organic feel of the human body.
