About The Artwork

Trace and action; trail that we involuntarily leave in our wake. Bodies cross, meet and interact. They leave traces, interact with the environment and with others. Sculptural project articulated from a personal research both theoretical and experimental where for the first time he uses ceramics and stone as working materials (looking for this double research; material and theoretical). The body as a presence, preserving what has already been, with the experience of each moment, where there are always things from the past and with an openness to what will happen. The body is proof of the passing of moments in the succession of history, a witness to what happens by preserving the traces of the past. Each body has its footprint, leaves its trail. The body is linked to time, a time that manifests itself in different ways and to the sensations that appear and disappear that return according to the interests of the person. In this way, lived experience is formed. What mark does a past experience leave on us? What is our retention of this? The impression left on the consciousness of these experiences?

Sònia Benitez, artist from Barcelona, creator of sculptures from different materials and formats. She has a degree in Fine Arts, specialized in working stone and ceramics, natural materials, which are very important elements in her work, where she looks for the connection with nature. She works on the human figure, especially the female one is the most present, figurative pieces, quiet and immobile, looking for the reflection of an accelerated and constant world, creating calm moments of pause and reflection. Sculpture allows her to create this reflection, her own personal expression of these sensations or feelings of that specific moment, seeking for the viewer to observe and create its own interpretations. She likes to work in a spontaneous way mud and stone creating unique pieces of art. She is currently working on a small format collection mixing iron and ceramics, looking for the contrast of the two materials. In 2007 she finished her Belles Arts studies at the University of Barcelona, specializing in sculpture and she was also granted a one semester scholarship at Michigan University where she worked on a project in ceramics. After 2008 she combined her teaching career with her personal sculptural work, enrolling into national competitions and presenting her work in small exhibitions. Throughout her career, she has participated in multiple collective exhibitions in Barcelona and Andorra, and she has been selected as a finalist in different sculpture competitions.
