ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Twine is inspired by the unity and security of friends, family and community. The individual shapes have been arranged in an overlapping formation, representing intertwining and unbreakable bonds. The viewers’ eyes are initially drawn to the central circles, a depiction of wholeness and completion. The colours have been selected to echo the sentiment that comes with a close-knit community; warm yellow to inspire joyfulness and positivity; radiant pink to convey comfort and green, blue and purple hues to strike harmony, stability and loyalty. Recommended for a lively space; where a community comes together to connect, socialise and bond.

The genesis of my artwork is emotion. I consider what feelings I want to inspire in the viewer and how I want my art to impact and enhance the space in which it resides. Once I know what I want to encourage the viewer to feel and the ideal space in which it should be placed, I utilise shape psychology, also bringing in inspiration from architecture, to influence my geometric style. In addition, I turn to colour psychology to guide the palette and help me achieve my desired outcome. Each design is composed of individual, layered, wooden shapes. The strata forms shadows that change depending on the viewer’s perspective, the environment or the angle of light. A key concept of my artwork is these transformations, offering the viewer an ever changing vision. Having completed an Art and Design Foundation course at Central Saint Martins, I studied Set Design for Stage and Screen at Wimbledon College of Art, London. I now live and work in Cheshire.
