Art Description

Sculpture: Paper, Found Objects, Manipulated on Paper, Other.

The series of small sculptures using egg and fruit boxes started after collecting them at the farmer’s market in São Paulo. What had called my attention was their low life expectancy. I took them to my studio and started to manipulate them on an intuitive level. Much of the process was purely intuitive and unpredictable, each of the boxes started to become new objects. I started to notice that this fresh form could open new dialogues, narratives and themes for these boxes in a contemporary context and perhaps extend their life expectancy.

The constructive execution of these objects starts by manipulating the boxes by altering their form. The material malleability contrasts with the rigid insertion of the egg and fruit boxes (which is mainly to protect the food). As the new form shows up, I lock them using needles and a single thread.

When the function and context of objects starts to fade out, the game starts seriously.
