About The Artwork
Obviously this is my take on Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" except here we have Venus coming to Los Angeles and not to the friendly shores of Cypress. Here in LA there is no one to greet her, which is a common theme for beautiful women coming to this town. She also feels the need to sex-up her image as noticed in her hand positions, another problem the inspiring beauty new to this town might feel pressure to do. Venus is carved from a solid block of maple, her shell is carved from poplar board then gilded. The beach, sea, mountains and sky are made from poplar, stained maple and found pine boards.
