This vessel is heavily inspired by modern architecture, this is referenced particularly in the top of the vessel, which gives a sense of shelter due to it overlapping the sides.

The Bronze wedges are meant to portray the idea of containment and security, as well as providing a visual contrast too the dark steel.

When heating and shaping the material a texture is created, this has been exaggerated on the body of the vessel and shows how soft the steel is when heated, as well as giving a tactile surface.

My practice focuses on the medium of forged steel, making objects which show the forging process and how the material can be shaped when heated. I also use Silicon Bronze and Stainless Steel as accents in my work to give a contrast in colour which can visually soften the object. I try to create a sense of elegance in the relatively cold and heavy material by taking advantage of the strength it has, as well as the added strength created by the forging process. My work is heavily inspired by traditional Japanese architecture. Specifically, the way that the buildings are constructed using various interlocking wooden joints, which then becomes a decorative feature. I am also influenced by modern architecture, the straight lines and angular shapes which the buildings form, with large expanses of concrete or steel. I commonly use wedges as they are a strong joint which allows dissimilar material to be joined. Rivets and Tenons are also used alongside punched holes which show the movement of the hot steel.
