About The Artwork

'Vialetto' is an elusive Italian word that can mean path or alley or walkway (among other meanings). This work brings together the idea of colour pathways around corners and just out of sight with shapes/symbols to evoke exploration, mystery, playfulness and joy. My own love of Italian colour juxtaposition and layered meanings stems partly from living in Piemonte (Northern Italy) for 10 years and finds expression in this new form of three-dimensional work. Dimensions/materials: 10cm x 10cm x 10cm original signed object made of solid oak, painted on all visible sides with five different 10cm x 10cm paintings that interrelate in both colour and theme. Painted with professional Italian and American acrylic paints crayon, satin varnished: all 5 sides painted (each side with a different painting; bottom: varnished wood). This work is meant to sit on a shelf or a mantle and from time to time be turned so that different sides are visible.

I am a painter and mixed-media artist. I moved to London in 2017 after 10 years developing my practice, showing my work and living in Italy. My studio is now located in the London N22 Arts District. I make abstract symbolist paintings and mixed media works. Organic shapes, luminous colour and structured compositions are hallmarks of my 'magical realism' works, while intense brushwork and tempestuous land-sea scapes reflect a different aspect of my practice. I have been deeply influenced by growing up in the Western United States and by my time and experience in Italy, as well as by classic modernists’ works and colour theory. Occasionally I take on commissions for large works. I am currently represented by AfterNyne Contemporary and the bowie gallery in the UK and Kobe Biome in Japan.
