Sculpture: Clay on Ceramic.
A votive is made as an offering - a prayer or a thanksgiving. It is a talisman - a reminder of benevolent powers and an invitation to them - and an icon - a point of contact with the universe and with eternity and a focus for meditation, transporting the the viewer to a realm of the imagination beyond the everyday. It's an object to keep and to contemplate.
Part of a series of spiritual ceramic sculptures inspired by prehistoric, archaic, classical and modernist art, this unique free-standing sculpture is hand-moulded in resinated clay, decorated with incised and inlaid decoration in contrasting clays and with acrylic gold paint enhanced with metallic powder, and finished with wax.
Spiral decorations relate to the growth of nature and to internal self-discovery; in pairs, they reflect the power of the crescent moon.
