About The Artwork

There are moments in life that have little impact when they occur and a much greater impact in hindsight. When I First Left Home is a piece that talks about one of those kinds of moments. In it, a single person leaves a very important person and a community behind as they set off on their own. In my works circles represent people and rings represent communities. The size of the circle denotes value and importance. My meanings and classifications extend to the outer shape of the piece. So for this piece, the outer shape is a person and what can be seen within is the memory of the event from the person's perspective and own value systems.

Ava Bock is a reductive artist working out of Asheville, North Carolina. Born and raised in the lower regions of New York, Ava moved to North Carolina in 2001. She has remained a resident of the Tar Heel State, splitting her time between its coastal and mountainous regions. After receiving an Associate in Fine Arts degree from Cape Fear Community College, her style evolved toward the spiritual and abstract. Learning to reimagine industrial plastics as a medium to sculpt, paint, and print with, Ava found her artistic voice. Once she completed her education in December of 2022, Ava earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Today, she can be found focusing her creative energy on harnessing the light-transferring properties of plastic. She uses the medium to visualize, process, and infuse the emotional inner processes of self-exploration and healing in her art. Ava has worked for a variety of private clients and local brands. She embraces collaboration with other artists, festivals, and companies. Contact Ava directly for more information.
