This piece is the first from a series called Words Our Armor. This vessel is inspired by a song titled Fallopian Rhapsody by the Lunachicks from 1995. The song is about abortion rights and this vessel was created in reaction to the over turn of Roe V Wade. Hand thrown on the pottery wheel and hand sculpted to create abstract and ambiguous biomorphic female forms. This form was then hand painted with the lyrics from the song, and then Raku fired. The intense fast firing process lends to the cracked surface design of the vase caused by thermal shock. The cracked glaze layered with the passionate lyrics for abortion rights emphasize the balance of fragility and strength, the vitality of survival that is embedded into this body of work. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this work (not including Saatchi Art commission) will be donated to non-profit Abortion Rights Funding.
