About The Artwork

Wood Sculpture In the spring 2014 in germany has an incredible storm raged … tens of thousands of trees are destroyed, people injured and died, as well as countless animals … a single trail of destruction still taking place always through the countryside and the whole day is the sound of chainsaws and fire engine sirens in the air. … and a new beginning! And as a sign of this inescapable new beginning ala “phoenix from the ashes”, I created this wood sculpture, in memory of all the victims of this storm, but also as an expression of unbroken courage, unbroken life energy; a new beginning! The more I worked on it, the closer to me this “piece of wood” grown to love and, increasingly, it no longer seemed to me only as a synonym for the storm and its devastation, but for life itself, which all too often devastation and injuries in personal life histories can bring forth. Deep cuts shows this wood, dark notches, wounds, here it hit the Un-weather, as it just “beats” the life … and yet is always out of everything what such seems an “end” born a new beginning … as a whole, with unbroken energy …. and every little part makes the whole a work of art … which is nothing more than a creation brought to life . No part is unnecessary, no bit superfluous, everything is perfect in itself and completely, the deep gorges cut in the wood as well as the intact bark … Wounded, yes, but *broken-un-broken*! Vera Komnig, born and raised in Germany, studied graphic design and currently lives in a charming small town on the edge of the Ruhr area. She earned her diploma at a renowned art school, where she was trained by well-known professors such as Professor Kirschner and Professor Moog. Her abstract, informal art is characterized by expressive colors, powerful, intuitively set lines that stretch across the canvas, in harmony with spirited narrative power through expressively set brushstrokes. Vera Komnig loves playing with contrasts, with light and shadow, with shine and roughness and thus creates an immense variety of visual effects. Away from smooth neutrality, towards uniqueness and personality, which develop and uncompromisingly express themselves in each of their unique works. These contrasts give her works additional expressive dynamics and a fascinating tension. Vera Komnig likes to experiment with different materials to realize her artistic vision, using many different materials such as metal, canvas, stone, or wood and combining them with acrylic or oil, enamel, spray paint, chalk to create her works with different textures and enrich surfaces. This variety of materials gives her works an additional tactile dimension. Her works can be found in public and private collections worldwide, for example in the USA, Norway, Denmark, Dubai, Italy and of course Germany, to name just a few countries. Vera Komnig has been represented nationally and internationally in many individual and group exhibitions for many years. Artist Statement: My inspiration is life itself, I draw from every single moment and make its history visible through painting. Vera Komnig www.verakomnig.com Testimonials: "Vera Komnig is able to tell stories with her paintings that I will never forget, and leave not be captured in words." Dr. Nora Scholz "Vera Komnigs images open you the personal gateway to the" Eternal ". They open your eyes to what is behind each expression by pleasantly reserved take in their truthfulness to a slight play of colors and a mirror in the clear depths of his own soul in this ease: in what carries everything " Tobias Knittel, Farincourt / Haute-Marnet, France TESTIMONIAL: written by Michael- embracingforever.wordpress.com "Vera, your work never ceases to amaze me with its variety of tone and voice.
