Artist’s Note I used some objects to express my childhood dreams, an animal keeper, and breathed a new life into the animals I wanted to breed through objects of plastic and stainless steel. In expressing animals, I concentrated on emotional representation rather than physical similarity. Through these activities, I want to achieve and fulfill my childhood dreams. I have used plastic before as an object for my artworks. However, in order to overcome some limitations of plastic objects, many chemical attempts were made to overcome those limitations. As a result, I finally tried to overcome the limitations through the use of stainless steel units of the same or similar shape as plastic objects. One of the characteristics of plastic objects is that they are mass-produced materials. The myriad connections of plastic objects that have meaninglessly been mass-produced in modern society resemble the current work of irregularly stacked units of stainless steel. The object ‘stainless steel’ is also piled up in large quantities and assembled one by one irregularly, so the characteristic of this material, which is mass-produced and consumed, is very important to the artist myself as well as the plastic works. And the thousands of stainless steel units of this work are re-interpreting the mass produced material from the factory, like any other modern material, as a work of the artist and expressing the animals. Having these thousands of stainless steel units stacked in the workplace comes up with a funny formative language. Stainless units, which are expressed freely like a Lego play without rules, are a pencil and a brush to the artist. In addition, the strong material properties and durability of stainless steel put a lot of energy into the works of animals. In the sense of expressing the shape of animals and reproducing the shape emotionally, the plastic works before and the present stainless works have the same context. However, it only has the difference in characteristics of material that it can be maintained stronger and longer. I tint various colors on animal works, and I think about the symbolic meanings of each color sense, blend them, giving meanings of more than animal to the works. Moreover, as expressing passion for the dream that I wanted to realize, I want to create something new that is more than animal with the meaning of the materials which overlap with each color sense.
