ABOUT THE ARTWORK

human nails #9 consists of many individual wire nails, which have been connected to each other by targeted welding points and thus unite to form an abstracted, human figure. The artist has cast the base here for the first time with a brushed larch wood formwork in fiber-reinforced and frost-resistant concrete. Thus, this work is also perfectly suitable for outdoor use. The upper area of the sculpture was finished with different tools and finely sanded. Hellweger treated the surface with hydrochloric acid and exposed it to the elements for a month to create an even layer of oxidation. The color of the sculpture may still change if placed outdoors. Dimensions sculpture without concrete base: 89 x 16,5 x 5,5 cm Dimensions Corten steel plate: 30 x 30 x 1 cm Total height: 190,5 cm Total weight: 40 Kg All sculptures by Manfred Hellweger are unique.

CREATIVE PROCESS AND INSPIRATION Manfred Hellweger questions the meaning and value of existence, the world and humanity. His distinctive sculptures are mainly made of wood, metal and stone. Hellweger uses simple shapes such as cubes, strips, boards, nails or shaped tubes. Using a variety of techniques, the individual parts are connected to create mostly figurative works that taper towards the base. Through this process, Manfred Hellweger's sculptures evoke a sense of vertical dissolution, symbolizing the perpetual change of our time. Everything changes and develops, nothing remains the same. Each piece embodies Hellweger's credo, “less of everything rather than more”, reflecting a philosophy of simplicity and contentment that extends beyond art.
