in Marinaro's works, the monkey represents the primitive part of the human being. with this sculpture the artist wants to underline the human involution that brings destruction. a monkey with a sad look, a peculiarity of the work is the animal's fur which transforms into a flame that "burns" and destroys a city. city that we find on the back of the sculpture itself. the destruction is tangible. daily lives are destroyed, you see collapsed roofs, ruined rooms. a sad atmosphere that underlines today's conflicts, where reason almost seems to give way to involution. sculpture made entirely by hand by the artist. particularity of the work is the look of the monkey. made in such a way that it can always follow whoever looks at it. at every angle she will set eyes on you.

Francesco Marinaro is a sculptor who lives and works in Turin, Italy. His artistic research revolves around the monkey; emblematic animal with a thousand facets which in Marinaro's works take on different meanings: figures in which man and animal merge. Multiple levels of reading, expression of the ferocity of instinct and human sweetness, works full of feeling that address profound themes but always with a pinch of irony. It transforms the most famous works of art into records, bringing them back to their "primordial" form, such as "The Girl with the Turban" by Vermeer or the works of Caravaggio. He gives shape to feelings by always including the monkey as the main element in dreamy poses full of sweetness and at times melancholic. In the "Inside Me" series the monkey is locked inside the human body, as if to underline even more how much we are linked to the animal world and what true human nature is.
