the sacrifice 2018 Shown at Greenpoint Gallery, 2019, curated by Shawn James While struggling with my own thoughts of meaning, success and depression I started to notice how obsessed we are (myself included) in this personality we create online. The constant fear of missing out, the need to know every detail and make sure people know this false identity we create. Studies have shown that many people will give up, sacrifice, something they love or need in order to stay active on social media for one year. Some would give up dessert for a year, their hair, bathing, sex or a finger. All to stay in a false sense of reality. The idea behind the piece is to lay out some of these sacrifices in a ritualistic offering. Similar to Mayans providing nourishment to the gods we are willing to provide pieces of ourself to a different higher power. / Plastic, Clay Certificate of Authenticity Each piece will arrive individually wrapped in tissue and bubblewrap. They are to be displayed as pictured on a flat surface preferably of no texture.
