About Elena Stroganova

Born in Moscow, Russia, in a family of a famous mosaic artist Leonid Stroganov, he is also presented on this site. Being in collage art for 12 years now. Moved to Toronto in April 2006. Member of Visual Artists Ontario. These artworks were created in 2002-2013.Collage - joyful, bright, magical art, full of new forms and colors, a combination of traditional images and those that hardly can exist. Or they still can? Collage helps to have a closer look at the surrounding world, to see something unusual in it and re-discover the extraordinary richness of the Universe and the human imagination. Collage art is officially considered to be born in China, received its development in the Medieval Europe and took its name from the French "coller" meaning to glue. In an age of powerful software and digital forms, I am still working with traditional materials as a collage artist and do not have Photoshopped artworks. They are all hand made and exist only in one original. In this art its all important - color, mix, idea, ability to convey mood and express feelings. I have had exhibitions in both Toronto and New York. Books of "Self-Help Emergency Room" series are illustrated with my collages only.

I fell in love with this art a while ago, back in Russia, at a small collage exhibition in the Museum of Arts in Moscow. Quite-by-chance visit, as I remember going to a bigger cultural event next door, resulted in inspiration to create something new, genuine, unique.I started by doing a number of works only for myself and close friends as a gift of love and appreciation. Over the years, what was once a hobby became a passion. Together we went through some good and difficult times. So here I am now with my artwork for you to explore and enjoy.
