Birgitt Becker

The artist Birgitt Becker studied interior architecture and design at the Trier University of Applied Sciences (1979-1984). Since the end of the 80s she lived in Rome (Italy), where she worked successfully as an interior designer.
From 2007 she stayed mainly in Germany and taught art and painting at a high School. In 2018 she returned to Italy. Professionally, she devotes herself exclusively to painting.
Shaped by her career as an architect, the subjects of her pictures are mainly dedicated to architecture and the representation of exterior and interior spaces. The front of a house, nested structures, the patina of a wall, the light reflections from windows and the shadow play of the squares, niches and alleys are of interest to the artist and she depicts them in an artistically nuanced manner.
Birgitt Becker works her paintings layer by layer. The style and gesture remain comprehensible for the viewer. He contrasts the flat and calm motifs with a lively note. The artist simplifies, minimizes and reduces forms in her pictures. These appear so abstract, but give space to the play of colors and light, which reflects the atmosphere of the buildings.
