Sonja Bremmers

My work is greatly influenced by my experience as a New Zealander and by the affinity I feel for the Wairarapa landscape. My paintings are about silence, space and creating depth. The surface of the painting is most important to me. I will spend hours layering the paint and creating different types textures. I love exploring the different materials and the unexpected juxtapositions that happen while painting. I love creating paintings that are luminous and mysterious. The excitement is in never knowing where a painting will end up.
