The luminous glow I impart to my paintings is due to an intense study of observing and applying the contrasting warm and cool colors of nature. I use the Hensche method, taught to me by Camille Przewodek, and also borrow from the Russian Impressionists to create my own style.
Unlike a value or tonalist painter, who employs a dark and light version of the same color, I usually interpret a totally different color for the light and shade of an object, person, or landscape. When I do use a gray, it has to be a beautiful gray, never made with black and white.
The commissioned portraits I paint are the most challenging and rewarding. I am a fast painter, except for these. It is so worth it, when I see the person's heart and soul come forward on the canvas.
Painting is intellectual, physical, intuitive, and passionate. For me, it is therapy, religion, and meditation.
I live in Novato CA, where we raised our two daughters. I teach painting at least one day a week.
