EXHIBITIONS

Clive Birnie is a poet, artist and printmaker working primarily with appropriated and original text sources. The majority of his work has a root in poetry or text. He is interested in the intersections where digital and analogue meet; the hidden poetry of numbers; the idea of "North" as a destination, a landscape, a pervasive economic ideology, and endangered ecology; the concept of the smartphone as a creative tool and anything that might be described as a "palimpsest". He is currently developing a series of limited edition prints titled "21 Slogans from the 21st Century".

An installation of the HashtagPoetry# project including an open 4 day workshop at the Byre Theatre, St Andrews as part of the StAnza International Poetry Festival in March 2016.

A short film of the HashtagPoetry# project was played on the Big Screen in Bristol’s Millennium Square for National Poetry Day in Oct 2016.

40 prints of the HashtagPoetry# pieces were displayed around Millennium Sq in Bristol to coincide with National Poetry Day in Oct 2016.

The Nuclear Tourist was included in the Evolver Prize exhibition at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery in summer 2017.

Clive exhibited at the Other Art Fair Bristol in September 2017.

Clive participated in a Poet Brut event and pop up exhibition during the Spike Island open studios weekend in Bristol in May 2018.

The Ghosts of Tiananmen Square was included in the Evolver Prize exhibition at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery in summer 2019.

A limited edition print from the Slogans from the 21st Century series was included in the Royal West of England Academy Open Exhibition 2019.

A photographic self-portrait 'Covid Day 41' was included in Together/Apart at That Art Gallery, Bristol in 2020 and included in the book of the same name based on the exhibition published by Tangent Boo...
