Hugh Colmer (1935-), a British artist, who studied at the London School of Printing, is a painter of abstract expressionist works, he is a stunning colorist who favors richly layered brilliant tones.
In the early 2000s, Colmer worked experimentally with abstract art, ancient icons, and classical imagery. Colmer paints in groups named for their source of inspiration e.g. the Harmonic Convergence.
When I paint, Im like a writer, Colmer states, I must have something to say. My paintings are like entries in a diary because they are expressions of my study of mythology and cosmology.
Colmers innovative interpretations of both cosmological and mythological subjects reflect a level of sophistication that has gained respect from his peers. One of his most innovative contributions is depicting his subjects, whether cosmological or mythological, in abstract expressionism.
