About Cynthia McLoughlin

Art is the one constant thread that runs throughout my life.  I interpret what I see and feel into my paintings, be it an awesome storm, a tragic shooting, or an incredible sunset, it is cathartic for me to express my emotions through the paint.

There are no coincidences. My path crossed with the Dublin street artist known as Solus on a LIRR train platform. I was all alone, wondering if I was in the right place when a very muscular, heavily tattooed man with a handlebar mustache and a baseball cap that said, “JERK”, walked my way. His lovely Irish brogue disarmed me immediately. He explained that he was an artist, on his way to Bushwick, Brooklyn, to work on a wall for the Bushwick Collective and that indeed, we were headed in the same direction. In that moment, my eyes were opened to the Street Art all around me.

I am a positive person. I see the beauty and light in living things, which is why I was drawn to paint flowers as my first expressions of street art, finding the light within them with my spray paints. Wanting my work to feel rugged, I use industrial steel panels. The light in my flowers evolved into the light of the souls lost in the Sandy Hook Massacre. It was so draining to paint that piece that I have returned to painting nature. Living in the mountains has infused my practice with a deep spirituality. In my expression, may you share my emotion and connect to your own spiritual core.
