David Wilder

As a painter and photographer, I tend to blur genres or more specifically, I enhance the emotional contrast that exists between the abstract and the figurative. For me, this conscious or unconscious modification of "how" we are, is the street poetry we share in an evolving, emotional landscape. Our self-gestures, posture, and ways of being, define these boundaries in the same way that "slang" is the source of "new" language.

_________________________ My workflow is a synthesis of painting, drawing, and photography that typically translate images and sketches into a detailed underpainting that will either be finished or ignored using a variety of glazes, ink, chalk, and direct painting techniques.

I was born in rural Massachusetts and raised on the California coast, before moving to Iowa City, Iowa where I live my wife, Patricia Foster, a writer.

My professional background is fashion photography and design.
