Diane Mckenna

I have always been someone who has been fascinated by the colors of the world around me and how they have the power to impact people's emotions. My paintings are often inspired by the beauty of color combinations found in nature and the way color evokes a particular feeling, experience or reminds us of a place we’ve been.
In my work I apply colors that inspire me to the canvas blending them to move in and out of one another letting the painting emerge from the way the colors interact and the movement of the brush strokes. I use color as a way to pull the viewer into my paintings and evoke a particular feeling. The painting might be motivated from the vibrant color of an iris; the power of the blue ocean or it might simply be a combination of colors that evoke energy, passion or peace.

Growing up in Northern New Mexico allowed me to experience first hand the seasonal beauty of nature and was the catalyst to igniting the artist within me. It is the source of my spirit and my joy.

I hold a BA in Communications with a minor in Art from the University of North Texas.
