Emer Beattie

Hello! My name is Emer Beattie (née Leavy) and I am an Irish artist living in the Highlands of Scotland. I was raised outside Mullingar, a town in the very centre of Ireland, but have been living here for the past 26 years with my Scottish husband and family. I paint scenes of nature - mostly wildflowers - in watercolour. I feel drawn to these small beauties probably because they are so often overlooked and yet it is a real challenge to capture the spirit and freshness of each one.

My mother, Anna Marie Leavy, was a well known Irish watercolour artist, and she has been my teacher, tutor and guide on my journey as an artist (as well as a person), so it would be untrue to say that I am self-taught. I assisted at many of the art courses she gave over the years and we have spent many weekends painting together. All my life I have been surrounded by music, art and painting. I used to tease my mother that we had paint-flavoured dinners as children, so I suppose you could say it's in my blood!

October 2023: Espacio Gallery, London: Selected as one of the finalists for the SAA Professional Artist of the Year Award. Exhibition features all of their Artists of the Year.
