Marilyn Lowe

About the Artist

Marilyn Lowe

Canada

Marilyn is a self-taught line artist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her medium of choice is pen and ink, using pencil, micron pens and alcohol markers to complete her designs. A doodler all her life she began drawing seriously in 2017.

Her creations are strangely beautiful, hypnotic, surreal and colorful, giving the viewer an uplifting feeling of happiness. A drawing often starts with a vision of a shape or pattern on the blank page which she captures and builds to completion, sometimes finding herself lost inside the drawing. Her inspiration comes from her surroundings, whether it be walks in nature, or at home and work, and she expresses it with a sense of adventure from her head onto the paper. She employs a variety of technics to come out with a pattern or design, it can be geometric, organic or spiritual in nature. Using a lot of risk taking she sometimes incorporates accidental things or characters, which gives it a surreal appearance.

Marilyn is retired with a background in manufacturing and business ownership in the wholesale giftware trade.

She took Drawing at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2004 and online pen and ink instruction with Alphonso Dunn in 2017. Her art was featured in the 2022 Saatchi Art Catalog of Emerging Artists.
