Christian Lehmann

At the heart of my artistic practice lies the interplay between planned structure and playful chance. My art is strongly influenced by Abstract Expressionism and Surrealism.

My creative process on canvases—which are mostly large-format—is characterized by frequent layering and smoothing of acrylic paints. In doing so, I use, among other tools, the Japanese joint spatula to adapt the classic squeegee technique to a smaller scale. This creates harmonious transitions as well as unpredictable textures.

It is important to me not to impose a fixed narrative on the viewer—the focus is on complete freedom of interpretation, so that each work opens up its own emotional spaces. In the early years, I therefore deliberately avoided using titles, relying only on numbers and years. I now assign titles for digital visibility on Saatchi Art – but the freedom to interpret the work remains.

My work is aimed at an international audience. I continuously publish new works and participate in global competitions.

Christian Lehmann is a self-taught artist who began his formal journey into acrylic painting in 2020, establishing an independent practice focused on dynamic abstract techniques. In late 2022, he launched his personal online gallery, followed in early 2023 by the ongoing public presentation of his portfolio across social plattforms [lehmann.atelier].

In the middle of 2024, he expanded his international reach with an official online shop on Saatchi Art, offering both original paintings and fine art prints. His self-directed work gained notable curatorial recognition later that year when his painting "Passing Cloudburst Kallstadt [24-09-N3]" was selected by Chief Curator Rebecca Wilson for Saatchi Art's "Chief Curator's Picks – Best of October 2024" collection.

In 2025, he further broadened his artistic scope by debuting AI-generated video installations, transforming his physical acrylic compositions into animated digital media.
