Torkel Viklund

My paintings are abstract, expressionist and organic. I search for colour chords, interaction and compositions that draws me in and starts having an energy of its own. In the process I move between contrasts like: complex-simple, light-dark, cold-warm, movement-stillness and so on. Painting is always a mix between improvising and following the impulses as well as working with the conscious knowledge and skill aquired through years of studies and various creative projects. I have gone a long way from the sheer joy of making marks with crayons to carefully observing and depicting the world around me, to where I am today, starting with an empty surface and trying to be as open as possible and see what happens.


I grew up in the north of Sweden and have studied art for two years at Umeå Konstskola and have taken several classes at Gerlesborg Konstskola on the west coast and other art schools in Stockholm. I have a degree of master of architecture from KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and have worked with that for a few years.
