Richard Naylor

I'm an abstract expressionist artist based in North Yorkshire, UK. I create through intuition rather than intention. Each piece unfolds naturally, led by energy, emotion, and whatever needs to come through in that moment.

I work mainly with acrylic paint, using a mix of application methods, brushes, other tools, my hands and fingers, to create texture, movement and marks that feel alive. I often dilute paint, spray with water, and layer instinctively to see what emerges. It’s less about control, more about curiosity.

For me, art isn’t something I try to perfect. It’s an expression of the soul. It often feels like it moves through me, rather than from me. That’s where the real magic lies.

While my work leans heavily into expressive abstraction, I’m also exploring more figurative abstract styles, bringing form and feeling together in new ways.

My work is personal, but not private. It explores the energies we all hold within us. It's about connection, honesty, and creating space for people to feel something real.

Educated to BA level in the UK, though my artistic path has taken me far beyond formal education. I’m in the process of unlearning, exploring new ideas and ways of creating. For me, true expression comes from freedom, not from a syllabus.
