Wellcome! "My intention is to create a visual world in which the viewer is invited to explore complex questions of life. The backbone of my work is defined by the willingness to provide a source of reference and inspiration.

Movements in time are collected by codes to express feelings and emotions related to space, form, and light.

The combination of drawing and painting, the mixture of different mediums on paper stretched on canvas, and various techniques of pencil and brush strokes result in a genuine visual language, waiting to be decoded."

Carita Schmidt graduated with a BA from the Dramatiska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden (today University College of Performing Arts). Her work has been exhibited in many international exhibitions, galleries and institutions, among them the Archaological Museum of Kavala, Northern Greece. She lives and works in Berlin since 2012. Since November 2019 Carita Schmidt is a cooperating Artist with the d/a/c art space in Miami. She is presented in the upcoming edition of Capsules book Volumne2, Contemporary Leading Artists. Book release in May 2020.

This painting is created with layers of fine line drawings, Gold metal, inks, acrylic on high quality Hahnemühle paper, 265 g, stretched on a stretcher. On first sight you can't see it is on paper. The paper is nicely folded and stretched on canvas and the canvas is stretched on a wooden stretcher. This gives a fine body and exclusive presentation. I use paper as it allows me to merge drawing and painting more effective. Blue and Gold are dominating in this acrylic painting.

Thanks for looking!

Carita Schmidt is featured Artist by Saatchi Art in the collection "Flora and Fauna" in November 2019.

About Carita Schmidt Carita Schmidt is a Berlin-based visual artist and art mentor whose abstract work explores the interplay of movement, light, and identity. Born in Güstrow, Germany, and shaped by life across Finland, Sweden, Greece, and both East and West Germany, her multicultural perspective informs a visual language rooted in transformation and reflection. Educated at the Dramatiska Institutet in Stockholm (BFA, 1983–86), Schmidt held her first solo exhibition in 1991 in Kavala, Greece. Since then, she has presented 16 solo exhibitions and participated in over 70 group shows across Europe and the U.S. Her work is held in both private and public collections, including the Graphothek Berlin, the Vafopoulio Cultural Center in Thessaloniki, and the Art Gallery MAGIC MOUNTAIN, Château Nico Lazaridi in Drama, Greece. Schmidt’s abstractions are characterized by layered lines—looping like strands of DNA or dissolving into veils of light—that generate fluid visual fields. In series like Frequencies, she reduces each composition to its essentials, capturing the ephemeral nature of Mediterranean light and the rhythms of inner perception. With a practice that merges technical precision and meditative presence, Carita Schmidt invites viewers into evolving visual spaces where form, gesture, and emotion continually unfold.
