Carlos Apartado

I paint viscerally, sometimes I paint with my heart, and other times with my gut. From the precision of figurative portraiture to the freedom of abstract expressionism, I currently fuse these languages to forge my own style, imbued with a spontaneity that seeks to resonate with the complex fibers of contemporary existence. Painting reveals itself as an emotional catharsis, and the stroke, a direct conduit to the subconscious, unleashing infinite possibilities that converge in each of my creations. On each canvas, I reinterpret reality, capturing the palpable vibration of my emotions and seizing the essence of all that happens to me and surrounds me, both the tangible and the invisible.

Each canvas transforms into my personal logbook, where color, form, and apparent disorder intertwine to achieve a visual structure that cries out. My work is the manifestation of this primal force. My path to art has been winding. I come from the world of advertising, a universe of immaculate images and meticulously orchestrated messages. Carlos Apartado (born January 26, 1976, in Mexico City) discovered his passion for art at an early age. Guided by his father, he began experimenting with shapes and colors at just four years old, diving into art encyclopedias to nurture his curiosity and develop his creative vision.

During his studies in advertising design, Apartado encountered oil painting—a discovery that would profoundly shape his artistic path. His first work in this medium received high praise from his professors, leading to an exhibition at the Mexican Society of Geography and Statistics.

Between 1996 and 1999, his work embodied a striking duality of strength and melancholy, expressed through emotionally charged portraits and a growing affinity for expressionism. In 1997, his grandfather's illness became a pivotal moment in his career, inspiring him to create around 30 pieces that captured the emotional intensity of that period.

His grandfather’s passing in 1998 left him in a deep void, causing him to step away from painting for 14 years.
