Gerald Huth was born and raised in New York City to an émigré family who instilled in him a deep love of culture and the arts. He currently live in Forestville, a lovely town along the Russian River in Northern California.
Many of his original influences stemmed from travels in Europe and European art, particularly Post-Impressionism and the Ecole de Paris. These past 20 years he has traveled extensively in Asia, and the arts of India, Cambodia, Japan, etc. have become a strong influence on his work. He feel that art, similar to music, is the universal language that allows us to reach across cultures and generations.
My mixed-media pieces combine many different materials. In my oil paintings, I incorporate a variety of papers as well as low-relief wood sculpture, giving them a three-dimensional quality. I have also done larger relief pieces, on various-shaped canvases, combined with woodcarving. The collages are made of a great many art papers collected during my journeys to Asia, mixed with a variety of drawing techniques – charcoal, pastel, ink, and watercolor. I feel that combining a variety of materials gives me greater freedom, and expands the possibility of artistic expression.

Gerald Huth studied architecture and art history at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received his Bachelors Degree (1970). He continued with studies of sculpture and painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d’Avignon 1971-72 (France ), and later drawing and printmaking at the Art Students’ League of New York. (1977-78)

After many exhibits in the USA, in 1995 he began to show in Paris, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. These venues included the Art Center Berlin, the Swiss House of Parliament, Bremen Airport, and Paris City Hall ( 16th arr. ) His work is in many public and private collections, including the Brooklyn Museum, The Art Center Berlin, Stadtmuseum St.Polten (Austria ), and Vassar College Art Gallery. In California, his mixed-media pieces can be found at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Rosa, the San Francisco State University Art Collection, The Merced College Theater, Dominican University Library, and the Rene diRosa Collection, as well as many private collections.
