Herbert Ruf

Once and again life brought me to East Asia (Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong) and back to Germany. It took nearly half a lifetime before I had the opportunity to attend the first professional art lessons.

Mildred Hsu Yee Wong (Hong Kong) guided me to a deep understanding of the Chinese culture and helped me to find the unity of spirit, body, brush, ink and paper and thus to control the flow of the water. All my capability in traditional Chinese paintings I owe to Mildred.

At Lübeck Art School I learned the basics of Western painting and drawing.

In my works you will find a great variety of styles, techniques, materials and subjects.
