Drawing and painting were my favorite childhood activities. In my early years I liked to capture and recreate the three-dimensional structure of an object on paper. It was not easy, and I liked trying different solutions. This devotion evolved over time as I discovered many ways to draw the world around me. With age, I found more complex solutions that worked for more difficult tasks.
When I work on a still-life, landscape or a portrait, I focus on the harmonic arrangement of form and light. I try to capture the reciprocal relation of air and light around the object. I use this to stimulate certain moods, awaken joy, and open a whole new world through the mysterious play of light.
I prefer to work with canvas and oil because it allows me the most versatility. I try to capture life as it is—light, dynamic, emotional, and exploring. As was dutifully said by Mark Rothko: ‘...a painting is not a picture of an experience; it is an experience.’
I am an intuitive painter. My art does not pursue a certain symbolic vision of art, nor does it go deeply into social aspects of human life. I consider my work to be a relentless quest for artistic excellence. For me, every painting—success or failure—is a step forward. ...
