Beginning my career with engineering in the mid 1980's I soon discovered a love of form and materials. In 1995 I gained a degree in sculpture after studying at Loughborough College of Art and Design before working as a boat builder, interior design project manager and Crown Courts administrator. I began my studio practice in 2001 teaching stone-carving to students with Autistic spectrum disorders and have since gained a Masters of Arts with distinction at Birmingham City University where I have taught on the undergraduate program and began a practice led PhD in 2008.
"I utilise a wide variety of elements in my practice, incorporating stone for its resistance, durability and relationship to culture, landscape and body. Drawing inspiration from natural and synthetic forms I am interested in consonances emerging when form follows function. These vernaculars interest me especially when they question our place in environments and disrupt the binary: nature-as-self or nature-as-object."
I am a qualified teacher, sculptor and researcher; with over ten years' experience in the lifelong learning sector, I now exhibit widely, engage in commissions and offer open classes for the public in stone sculpture.
