Andy Go

Andy Go is a London-based photographer, born in the USSR in 1982. He pays special attention to people from the middle of a normal distribution, who for that very reason so rarely become the centre of artistic attention. He is interested not in an impressive surface, but in a person’s inner world: their state, their vulnerability, their quietness, and that moment when the camera is still there, but has stopped getting in the way.
For him, photography is a way of looking and a way of speaking. Andy Go works extensively with film, pinhole cameras and hand-printing processes, including gelatin silver printing, cyanotype and Van Dyke brown. Analogue photography remains, for him, a more honest way of making images — not because it is somehow purer, but because it is slightly less convincing when it pretends to be neutral.
His books and series often sit between personal experience and a reflection on photography as a medium. This can be seen in the self-published photobooks Maybe (2023), Creation of Eve (2023) and 70% Water (2024), as well as in the projects Thread from the World, Inner Mongolia and Virgins of Nude, where intimacy, distance, corporeality and the very possibility of making an image are tested each time anew.
