Summary.
Ritchy Ruiz Véliz, is a Venezuelan visual artist based in Barcelona, Spain. His beginnings in art were influenced by graffiti and the concepts of postmodern painting.
As a member of the Venezuelan diaspora, today made up of millions of compatriots, his artistic work is nourished mainly by time, memory and remembrance, recurring themes among those who have had to emigrate from the country due to socioeconomic conditions.
This fragmented memory is what Ritchy captures in his works, in which he uses the patchwork technique, joining different pieces of canvas to offer a fragmented vision, thus achieving an image similar to the mechanism of memory.
In this way, texts, images and textile prints act as references to past times, when combined in a process -practically kinesthetic- of associative memories where smells, sounds, flavors, etc. are mixed.
