Steve Danielson

I am a figurative painter and sculptor. My practice moves between two bodies of work — one reimagining myths and allegories, the other observing the intimate details of everyday life. In both, the human figure is a constant subject. I work intuitively, building each painting or sculpture from life drawing, direct observation, and imagination, deliberately mixing flat and modeled passages within each piece. My images are grounded in situations that are specific enough to be true and mysterious enough to be intriguing.

Steve has studied painting, sculpture, and printmaking at the Art Students League of New York. He completed a residency at the School of Visual Arts and has an MFA in film making from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.

Born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Lives and works in New York City.
